Well, today started out great and then quickly took a turn for the worse. This is the shortened version of how my day went:
*6:30: Woke up(after going to bed at 3:30)
*6:45: Arrived at my sister’s at and crawled back in bed with my niece (I am her full-time caretaker while my sister and her husband are at work all day)
*10:15: My niece woke up (we’ll call her T), got her dressed and ready to go, and then drove back to my house
*10:30ish: Mom and I had T outside while we were cleaning an old toy cash register (it was mine when I was like 5… almost 20-years-ago). My sister and I found it in storage the other day and knew she would love it. Anyway… Here is where it gets interesting.
I walked into the kitchen to get an old rag to give to Mom to clean with. Mom was sitting on the top of the steps, just outside the back door. I handed her the rag and she scooted over so that I could get around her while coming back outside. UNFORTUNATELY for me, I stepped on the rolled up rug also laying no the steps. Anyone care to take a guess at what happened next?
A.) I continued on down the steps, arriving at my destination (which happened to be the carport)
B.) I tripped over the rug but somehow managed to land on my feet (you know, like how a cat always lands on their feet)
C.) I tripped over the rug, bumped into and knocked down my niece, and caused ALL my weight to come straight down on my right foot.
If you guessed A… You are wrong.
If you guessed B… You are… Still wrong.
If you guessed C… DING DING DING. We have a winner.
Thankfully, T was fine. I just bumped her enough to cause her to fall on her butt (which luckily has extra cushion back there like her aunt.) I have NEVER EVER in my life been in so much pain. I’m pretty damn tough though and surprisingly didn’t cry (though I did have some tears later when the throbbing wouldn’t stop.)
I laid there for a minute on my back. I was in so much pain I couldn’t speak. Mom of course thought it was hilarious and laughed so hard she had tears in her eyes. (I was pissed at the time, but I’m sure it was pretty damn funny to see from another viewpoint.)
Eventually, when I had regained my composure, I tried to stand up. Yeah, that didn’t work to well. As soon as I put pressure on my foot it gave way (like my leg did in high school after severely pulling my right hamstring) and I nearly busted my ass again. It was terrible. Horrible. Ridiculously painful. (And still is.)
I soon realized that the only way I was going to make it into the house is if I did the crab walk. (Yes, you read that right… The crab walk.) I managed to crab walk up the steps without using my right foot somehow. I then scooted across the kitchen and through the living room on my ass until I finally reached my destination.. The big comfy couch.
I iced it. I attempted to stretch it, and then it began to swell… And swell.
I was supposed to take my niece to see my sister at work around 2:00, but for obvious reasons I couldn’t drive. My other sister (G) and her husband (C) were in town thankfully so they took her (and me). My oldest sister (T’s mom) had crutches so she gave me those to use. I never realized what a bitch it was to use crutches until now.
Anyways, I won’t ramble any more about how ridiculously clumsy I am. I would assume you get the picture by now.
My evening ended on a rather positive note though. My boyfriend, my sister (G), my brother-in-law (C), and I spent the evening at my house with my niece, while my other sister (S) and other brother-in-law (B) went out of town for the evening. We had a lot of fun, even though I couldn’t move from my spot. My dad also came to visit which was nice. I miss not seeing him very much. We are both always so busy. I suppose I should stop and take the time to visit him more often.
Now everyone has gone home and here I am, still stuck on this damn couch. Mom is in her room, but since I can’t walk downstairs with crutches I cannot make it to my part of the house (which is the basement). My honey brought me my computer upstairs earlier though so that I would at least have something to occupy my time (other than HBO & Cinemax… There is some pretty racy shit on there at this time of night. I’m all for racy on occasion but damn.)
So there you have it.
The explanation as to why I should from here on out be referred to as “Grace.”
PS: My foot (not ankle) is swollen to almost twice it’s size. I have a really big, yet strange vein poking out on the right side of my foot. I don’t really know why it’s there considering that’s not the part of my foot I fell on. I planned to go see the new Resident Evil tomorrow with J (my honey), BUT I guess that will have to be postponed. On a positive note, I have an appointment with a physical therapist tomorrow (my sister’s friend). Hopefully he will be able to tell me just how much damage I have done. *Fingers crossed*
I did not really have much time to get started with my blog. At least not as much time as I would have liked. I’ve got to go now. I have a hot date. ;)
I’ll post more later.
